HISTORY

The tug Peter B. McAIIister, official number 239970, was built in 1940 by Equitable Equipment Company as hull number 108 at Madisonville, Louisiana. The tug, 75.9 feet long, 23 feet wide, and 138 gross tons, was eventually named B.T. De Bardeleben, then Lilian, and finally Peter B. McAIIister. On August 29, 1973, while trying to haul off the grounded Delaware Getty in San Juan Harbor, Puerto Rico, the Peter B. McAIIister capsized and sank. She was apparently raised, repaired, and put back into service. The tug McAIIister was ultimately sunk as an artificial reef on May 16, 1998, off Broward County. The wreck rests upright with her bow pointing south in 70feet of water.
